Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp dark roast Robusta coffee grounds
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 4 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp evaporated milk
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (optional)

Equipment

  • French press or coffee maker
  • 2 tall clear glasses (12 oz)
  • Measuring spoons
  • Regular spoon
  • Heat-safe container

Method

  1. Add 4 tablespoons of dark roast coffee grounds to your French press. If using cardamom, add it now. Pour in 2 cups of hot water. Let it sit for 4 minutes, then press down slowly.
  2. Pour hot coffee into a container. Add 1 tablespoon of condensed milk and stir well while coffee is still hot. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  3. Let coffee cool to room temperature (about 5-10 minutes) or place in refrigerator. Do NOT skip this step – hot coffee will melt ice too fast!
  4. Fill two tall, clear glasses with plenty of ice cubes (about 1 cup per glass).
  5. Pour 1-2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk into the bottom of each glass. Don't stir! Let it settle at the bottom.
  6. Hold a spoon upside-down just above the ice. Slowly pour cooled coffee over the BACK of the spoon. This creates perfect layers.
  7. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of evaporated milk on top of each glass using the same spoon technique.
  8. Serve immediately with a long spoon. Take a photo, then stir well before drinking!
